I approached the piece with a sense of vertical expansion, seeking to mirror the intensity and grandeur of the angelic cries that “shake the temple.” The music gradually builds in both texture and energy, culminating in the soprano’s ascent on “highest,” a gesture meant to echo the soul’s reaching toward divine majesty as earthly voices join in the timeless worship of heaven.
